Dr Wayne Jones is an experienced Auckland General Surgeon. Surgical training and qualifications
Dr Wayne Jones graduated from the University of Auckland, and completed his surgical training as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Auckland in 1996.
He completed post-fellowship training in the United Kingdom, and worked as a general surgeon in Exeter and Bristol for two years, before returning to New Zealand. Wayne has been a Consultant General Surgeon in public and private practice in Auckland since 1998.
Experience as a General Surgeon
As a Consultant General Surgeon, Wayne has held a number of directorships and positions at several Auckland hospitals and clinics. He recently completed eleven years as the Clinical Director of General Surgery at the Auckland District Health Board.
Wayne is currently Head of the Breast Unit at Auckland Hospital, and a partner in Breast Associates, a specialist clinic providing complete breast care. He is also part of the multidisciplinary team at the Women's Cancer Centre of New Zealand.
Contributions to medicine
Wayne is passionate about furthering the understanding of cancer treatment, particularly breast cancer. As part of his commitment to cancer research, Wayne undertakes his own ongoing research, and participates in various studies and trials. He has published scientific papers in international journals in the areas of breast cancer, melanoma, hernia surgery and general surgery.
Wayne is also involved in teaching and administration with a variety of professional medical associations, including the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, and is active on a number of surgical and medical committees.
